Why lithium and battery technology is the new 'oil' of investing

Just as early Ford and GM investors grew rich from the internal combustion engine, the transition to electric vehicles will do the same for newer classes of responsibly charged investments. Global car manufacturing has reached an environmental tipping point, with the most powerful brands investing billions of dollars into transforming the industry. But this is a much bigger story than just Tesla alone. Affordable rechargeable batteries now make it possible to store electricity and harvest renewable energy for a growing number of commercial and domestic uses, so as a critical component in electric vehicles, power storage and mobility, the mega-trend in lithium mining and investment in the battery technology value chain is here to stay.

In this episode of the Friends With Money podcast, senior journalist David Thornton is joined by Kanish Chugh, head of distribution at ETF Securities, to discuss the rising demand for lithium, where it comes from, and how investors can benefit by tapping into battery technology markets.
